Sick Visits Q & A

What is a sick visit?

A sick visit is an essential part of your health care. If you’re not feeling well, have discomfort, or general concerns about your health, the team at Medico can identify the cause of symptoms and develop a treatment plan.

During sick visits, doctors commonly diagnose and treat symptoms including:

  • Seasonal allergies
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Earache
  • Headache
  • Chest congestion
  • Asthma
  • Allergic reaction
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever

Routine health physicals should be scheduled annually, while sick visits are scheduled during a time of poor health to provide focused time to diagnose and treat signs of illness. Scheduling sick visits also enables your doctor to detect and diagnose a chronic health condition in its early stages if present, making treatment more successful.

What should I expect during a sick visit?

During a sick visit, the Medico team collects information about your health symptoms, reviews your medical history, and performs a comprehensive assessment of your health. A customized treatment plan is developed based on the findings of the exam.

If necessary, your doctor may also order chest X-rays or other imaging, strep or flu tests, or laboratory studies. Treatments may involve antibiotics or other prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, dietary changes, or increasing oral hydration. Your doctor may recommend a follow up visit at Medico or refer you to a health specialist.

When do I need to schedule a sick visit?

Sometimes it’s hard to know whether you should stay home to rest and recover on your own or make an appointment with the doctor. The Medico team recommend scheduling a sick visit if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Pain lasting more than five days
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Sore throat and fever
  • Fever lasting more than five days
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Wheezing
  • Painful or frequent urination
  • Earache with fever or difficulty sleeping

Medico schedules sick-visit appointments at the earliest available opening to ensure you get prompt medical attention when you’re not feeling well. In addition, you should call and schedule an appointment or use the online booking feature to schedule whenever you have concerning health symptoms.
